DU Teacher Strike Affect student Exam
The exams started at Delhi University,
but thousands of teachers are on strike against the Center's decision to
replace ad-hoc teachers with visiting professors. The appeal was launched by
the Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA), which stated that the
university administration had terminated the ad hoc teacher appointment system
and started the process of recruitment of guest teachers.
With this decision, about 4,500
teachers who had been working at the AU for years became unemployed. The DUTA
strike runs counter to a decision by the university administration that
jeopardizes the future of around 4,500 ad hoc teachers.
According to the demonstrators, the
system of recruitment of ad hoc teachers would be replaced by that of visiting
teachers. With that, 4,500 ad hoc teachers, who had taught at the AU for years,
will lose their jobs.
Protesters say this decision will
directly affect the quality of education. In addition to attending courses, UD
ad hoc teachers also perform important administrative tasks, such as preparing
exam tests and conducting exams, but visiting teachers only attend classes.
The DUTA issued a statement stating
that its fight would continue until the Department of Human Resources
Development and the University Grants Commission make a decision on ad hoc
teachers. It involves contacting students, parents and political parties to
make this movement a success.
DU professors have also issued a
message to students, stating that when you reach the university to take exams,
you will find us absent from our position. This will be an obstacle to your
exams. It's not nice for you or for us. We had to go on strike because all your
professors who were working on an ad hoc basis and whose number at the
University is about 5,000 were put out of work at once thanks to an arbitrary
letter written by the 'administration.
