Evo
Morales Ayma fled Bolivia on 10 November 2019, following weeks of violent
protests.
The
first coca farmer was the first President of the country. Two-thirds of
Bolivia's population comes from indigenous nations. Bolivia has many mineral
resources including the much sought after Lithium.
Morales
won his first election as the 'pink tide' of nationalist journalism took power
in several South American countries. He has been elected president in all
elections since 2005.
He
criticized when he called for the fourth quarter of October 2019 elections and
received a judicial ruling to block Bolivia's three-term legal limit.
Morales
has been announced as the winner of the May 20 election. The Native American
Association is accused of widespread violent theft in an audit report. The
result was asked and in response, Morales called for new elections. But
opposition led by former President Carlos Mesa, who came second in the polls,
rejected the proposal.
The
head of the armed forces, General Williams Kaliman, now urged Morales to step
down. He resigned and fled to Mexico seeking refuge. With all four of the next
four presidents, including the Vice President retiring, Senator Jeanine Anez
announced as interim President to Congress on November 12 despite not having
agreed to his nomination.
