The actor
turned political Rajinikanth on Tuesday approved the statement of fellow actor
Kamal Haasan that the two could unite politically for the benefit of Tamil
Nadu.
"Rajini
and I will travel together if the development of Tamil Nadu is necessary,"
Haasan told reporters on Tuesday, according to NDTV. “If it is necessary to
travel together, we will say so. Now, work is important. We can talk about our
policies later. We are together for 43 years, joining together is not a
miracle. "Rajinikanth affirmed Haasan's position while talking to reporters
at Chennai airport. The superstar, who was traveling to Goa, said:" If the
situation demands it and it is necessary that Let us proceed together in
politics in the interest of the people, we will go ahead and travel together.
When the need arises, we will join as a team. ”
Haasan's
party, Makkal Needhi Maiam, won 5% of the votes in the elections of Lok Sabha
in Tamil Nadu held six months ago, but did not win a single seat. Rajinikanth
has not yet launched his political party.
Earlier this
month, Rajinikanth had claimed that attempts to "saffron" him would
not succeed. He added that he will not join the Bharatiya Janata Party before
the 2021 Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu. Rajinikanth's statement came days
after meeting BJP leader Pon Radhakrishnan.
On Sunday,
Rajinikanth had said that the fact that Edappadi Palaniswami had been Tamil
Nadu's chief minister for two years was a "miracle." "Two years
ago, Edappadi Palaniswami would not have even dreamed of becoming the prime
minister," Rajinikanth said at a concert by maestro Ilayaraja to celebrate
Haasan's 60 years in movies. “And they said it wouldn't last even a few days.
But, he had survived for more than two years. This is a miracle. The miracles
happened yesterday. It is happening today and it could happen tomorrow. ”
