Legislative Assembly elections [Delhi Election] will be held in Delhi in February 2020 to elect 70 members of the Delhi Legislative Assembly. The term of current assembly elected in 2015 will expire on 22 February 2020.
Delhi's chief minister ARVIND KEJRIWAL on Sunday called BIS's report "false and politically motivated" stating that drinking water in the capital failed a quality test.
The Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Ram Vilas Paswan, on
Saturday released another phase of the Indian Standard Equipment Laboratory
(BIS) stating that Delhi along with Kolkata and Chennai failed in almost 10 out
of 11 quality water consumed. On Sunday, posters were seen in parts of Delhi
bashing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for forcing people to drink
"toxic" water.
After posting a picture of one such poster, Health Minister and
Chandni Chowk MP Harsh Vardhan tweeted: "Arvind Kejriwal is poisoning the
people of Delhi in the name of free water supply. Water in Delhi proved to be the
most toxic in a survey of 20 cities. The AAP government has high standards for
development but has failed to provide residents with safe drinking water.
"
Kejriwal responded to Vardhan's post, saying, "Sir, you are a
doctor. You know this report is false and politically motivated. An individual
like you should not become part of such dirty politics," said Kejriwal,
who is the chairman of the national water utility Delhi Jal Board. In the first
phase of the survey, BIS had found that all 11 samples drawn from Delhi did not
meet the quality standard and the water pipeline was not safe for drinking.
Water samples were tested to study organic and physical parameters and to
identify the chemical and toxic substances and bactericidal quality as well as
virological and biological parameters.
President Manoj Tiwari, President of Delhi Bharatiya Janata (BJP),
blamed Kejriwal for bad air and water quality in Delhi and asked him to avoid
politics in things necessary for people's lives. The party also launched the hashtag
#DillikaPaaniZahrila and asked Deliti to send information about the water
utility in the area by tagging Delhi BJP.Tiwari said the party's workers will
protest across the city and collect water samples to be delivered to Kejriwal.
AAP and BJP indulge in games such as drinking water, air pollution
and regulation of unlicensed colonies in the city, which will conduct opinion
polls early next year.
