Pink ball test match India vs Bangladesh
It's first time,
because the test game we've been waiting for is only a few hours to go. Both
India and Bangladesh have been working overtime to prepare for the Pink Ball
Test, which is the first day / night game in the longest format in
international cricket played on the subcontinent, India (BCCI) and cricket
Association of Bengal (CAB) left no stone unturned in their preparations for
the historic friendly.
India will
play its first ever Pink Ball friendly against Bangladesh at Eden Gardens in
Kolkata today. India will be the last major cricket nation to enter the Pink
Ball Test era with this game. Although the format was introduced in 2015, India
was reluctant to see former captain Sourav Ganguly become the new BCCI
chairman. The new regime under Sourav Ganguly decided to play in the second and
final friendly of India in the two-series test against Pink Ball Bangladesh.
Ganguly managed to convince the Bangladesh Cricket Board to agree to the day
and night friendly.
What is Pink Ball?
In the
2000s, pink balls were developed to allow testing and first-rate games at
night. The red ball is unsuitable for night testing due to poor visibility, and
the white ball is inappropriate for top class cricket, as it deteriorates
rapidly and can not be used for 80 overs, as stated in the rules satisfactory
compromise on both issues. It is still considered more difficult than seeing a
white ball. and the leather is more heavily dyed than a red ball, which helps
it retain its color and visibility while being worn, yet has a slightly
different wearing quality. It has proven to be good enough in tests and
first-class cricket to be approved for use in international cricket. [11] A
pink ball was first used in an international game in July 2009, when the
English women's team defeated Australia in a one-day play in Wormsley, and a
pink ball was in a day-night testing game for the first time in the November
2015. Other colors such as yellow and orange (luminous composite) have also
been tested to improve night visibility. The preferred option was Rosa.
Why is the pink ball introduced?
In a
landmark for Indian cricket begins today the first day-night test with pink
balls in the legendary Eden Gardens, where the hosts compete against
Bangladesh. This is the first time that India and Bangladesh play with the pink
ball, and the event has caused quite a stir. The pink ball was invented to
enable day-night testing, which in turn was introduced to spice up test
cricket. The logic is that viewers tend to see test games in the evenings after
office hours. In addition, the pink ball is more conducive to swinging balls
because of its construction, especially in earlier overstressing situations.
This means that batsmen would have to adjust their game accordingly. And then
there is the factor to play a friendly under light. The conditions are
different and can lead to interesting results.
